Steven Wilson sent along the following excerpt from an article in the NY Daily News to WrestleZone.com:

9-year-old Damori Miles dies in jump off Brooklyn apartment, may have been imitating video game
BY Matthew Lysiak and Alison Gendar

Friends say Damori Miles jumped to his death imitating a character from the video game, 'Smackdown Raw'.

A 9-year-old wrestling fan
jumped off his Brooklyn apartment roof wearing a homemade parachute in a fatal imitation of his favorite video game character
, friends said.

The broken body of Damori Miles was found on the ground outside the Albany Houses about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Wrapped around his body was the string and plastic bag he used for the parachute, police sources said. The boy died at Interfaith Medical Center an hour later.

"It's terrible. The kids try to imitate what they see and they think they can fly," said family friend Sumore Murrel, 29.

The third-grader was supposed to have a Tuesday night play date with Murrel's two children, Shakar, 11, and Kevin, 9, but never showed. "His older sister came knocking on the door looking for him at 7:30. She had no idea he was dead. None of us did," Murrel said.

It turned out the boy, who received special education instruction, had left his 10th floor apartment and walked up to the Crown Heights building's roof.

Shakar, Damori's best friend, said his pal was imitating his favorite PlayStation2 game, "WWE SmackDown vs Raw."

"He tried to do a swan dive like Jeff Harding does in 'SmackDown.' That was his favorite game. He played it all the time," Shakar said.

"That was what he was trying to do. If I would have seen him up there, I would have told him not to do it."

That's a horrible news story. I feel so bad for that kid's family and friends. Not only was he just a kid, but he had some degree of disability which makes this even sadder.

According to the source I saw of this, the mother went to the store. Their are a lot of possiblities with the father (some including not being invovled with the childs life). Anyway, this sucks and I send my condolences out to family and friends.

This is horrible. May the kid rest in peace. I just hope his mother didn't leave him on his own though.

I like this article. Not because of what happened, but because of what automatically happens when something like this happens.

Notice they automatically blame video games. They automatically lay the blame on some source of the media. Its almost like when they tried to blame musicians for the high school shootings. And this really makes me not happy.

Its not a fucking video games fault, anyone with half a fucking brain knows you don't leave a kid all by themselves for to long. Especially if they have special needs. I think if the kid is under 13 they shouldn't be left alone, and this just proves it.

The mother may of said she just went to the grocery store, but honestly...how long does it take a kid to sit there and think to himself "I'm going to make a parachute out of a plastic bag and string then climb all the way up to the top floor to jump off and do a senton bomb!" Are you fucking serious? Anyone could of been back from the grocery store by the time a kid with special needs thought that idea up on their own.

I'm placing the blame directly on the mother. Where the hell were you when your kid was doing this? And why the hell wasn't he with you if you were going to be gone longer then an hour?

That's what I want to know. Fucking parents aren't willing to take responsiblity for when shit goes wrong, then they want to blame the media and try and get money out of them. Its a sad damn day when you can't even admit you fucked up. I feel bad for this kids friends...and I hope the mother can soon say that she could of taken a better watch over her son. Until she does she won't have any peace of mind.

I agree with Seth, I believe it was the mother's fault. I just don't know how she'd dream of leaving her child at home alone, especially seeing as he was autistic.

But yet again, WWE are gonna get blamed for it.

I'm with Seth, I hate the fact they automatically blame the game, especially when I believe it was the stupid mother's fault. Leaving him alone, when he was special needs...who does that?

Either way, it is still a tragedy, and I hope he rests in peace.

I'm sorry but I find it hard to blame the mother when I don't know all the details of the situation. He could have just as easily done it while she was in another room or while she was off at work trying to make money so they could have something to eat that week. Parents do need to supervise their children better but I don't think the blame is entirely on her because you can't possibly watch someone every second. We're not talking about a kid who went and shot up a school, but a little kid that wanted to be like his hero. Sometimes tragedy happens.
