PostSubject: Boy George: Life After Culture Club and in Trouble with the Law   Mon Mar 02, 2009 11:39 pm

Hey guys, it's time to look @ the troubled life of George Alan O'Dowd better known to fans as Boy George.

Ever since the break-up of Culture Club, it seems that Boy George has been in a lot of Hot Water as of late.

The Former Lead Singer of New Wave Rock Band Culture Club who had big hits in the 1980's including Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?, I'll Tumble 4 Ya, Miss Me Blind and Karma Chemeleon has been in trouble with the law since the break-up in 1986.

In July 1986, Boy George was arrested for heroin possession. The project, code-named 'Operation Culture,' involved the raids of houses and arrests of ex-boyfriend Jon Moss, friend Marilyn, Culture Club backing vocalist Helen Terry, friend Mimi and drug suppliers Ginty and Steve.

In 1995, Kirk Brandon, an ex-lover during Boy George's punk days had filed a lawsuit against him for "malicious falsehood" claiming to falsely mentioning a love affair between them in Boy George's autobiography, Take It Like a Man. George won the suit and Brandon was ordered to pay 200,000 to Virgin Records, EMI Virgin Music and the book publishers for legal costs. Brandon had himself declared bankrupt, which resulted in Boy George paying 60,000+ in legal fees (Boy George with Paul Gorman (2005), Straight, London, Arrow Book).

On October 7, 2005, Boy George was arrested in Manhattan on suspicion of possessing cocaine, and appeared in court on February 1, 2006.

On June 17, 2006, a Manhattan judge issued a warrant for the arrest of Boy George after the former Culture Club singer failed to appear in court.

On August 14, 2006, Boy George reported for garbage duty, picking up trash for the New York City Department of Sanitation as part of his community service.

As a result of the media coverage, he was allowed to perform his community service inside the Sanitation Department grounds. This garbage duty was assigned by the court for "wasting police time", after he admitted to falsely reporting a burglary in his Manhattan apartment.

and as of late,

On December 5, 2008, Boy George was convicted in Snaresbrook Crown Court, London, of assaulting and falsely imprisoning a Norwegian 28-year-old male prostitute in his home in East London. The court heard that O'Dowd handcuffed Audun Carlsen to a wall and beat him with a metal chain as he tried to escape from the flat in Shoreditch, after a nude photography session.

and on January 16, 2009, he was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment for this offence.

Passing sentence, the judge said that George's attack had left the victim "shocked, degraded and humiliated".

Initially sent to HMP Pentonville in London, he is now serving his sentence at HMP Edmunds Hill in Newmarket, Suffolk (a category C prison).

WOW, talking about a guy who has had problems w/the law.
